Shopping in Summer

As the temperature soars, we run helter skelter to shop for soft and comfortable clothing. There are some prime factors we need to consider while rummaging to update our wardrobe: the look of the season, fabrics available, colours and the persona of ones self.

KIND OF LOOK
The look during summer season is that of the 60's with the soul of 90's giving it a contemporary and modern approach. Street fashion seems to be the mantra of summer season. There has been a comeback of tunic with high slits and harem pants. The hottest fads of summer season are Oriental and Indian textiles, which create a harmony between the leaf motifs and sprinkles of decorations. The wraps remain this season in statements like pleats, drapes and the smocking effect. The slim look is in response to the health conscious consumer who is working on her toned midriffs. The clean look in the soothing crispy Chikankari is the best bet in the langourness of the summer. Ombers in fortus of overshirts and jackets give a trendy and chic appearance. A lot of aqua sportswear adds to the casual dressing. The lingerie takes a flight into nightwear with seductive, sensuous lacy frills.

KIND OF FABRIC
The right fabric attributes to have a soft and sexy feel to your skin - that is what is called wonder fabric, for it is the fabric, which make and shape the garments. Handcrafts remain the inspiration as global warming builds up.

Wafer thin fabrics that are delicately embroidered with eyelettes, sequins and mirror work builds the tempo for the designers. The velour and elasticized hand made crochets are the popular choice of summer season. Transparency makes an impact in chiffons, nets, georgettes and knits. Knitwear in the form of body sculpting and soft fabrics which drape around would be good sellers. Hand made and hand spun fabrics would have jumps in demand and khadi will be strong in corporate attires. Prints remain favourites for the masses owing to their appeal in blocks, assymetrical, embossed and jacquards.

KIND OF COLOUR
The colour palette of summer season is inspired by the coral hues suggesting a sense of peace and tranquility. There is a definite return of gold and silver with the revival of rusts, reds, electric blues, lavender and parrot green as show stoppers and shock valves. The black story continues for nightwear and whites for daytime. Pastels in darker tones are suggestive in order to avoid the washed - off effect.

AND TO END WITH - AN ATTITUDE
The most important factor is the attitude. The self-confidence in oneself helps in carrying the most chic garment to the most outlandish outfit without a problem and with panache. One must wear the right kind of accessories so that it accentuates the persona rather than diluting the intended effect.

Feel Fresh During the Summer..

  • Shower every day. Use exfoliating shower gel to clean off the grime. Turn the water to hot to start the shower (because it cleans you more effectively), but towards the end of your shower, turn the water to a lukewarm or cool setting. This lowers your body temperature to make you feel cooler (and wakes you right up in the morning!).
  • Moisturize right after you step out of the shower. A great trick is to use baby oil instead of the normal lotions. While you're still damp, rub small amounts all over your body. If you prefer scented lotions, use something light. Opt towards citrus or flowers for a nice crisp scent. Heavy scents like Vanilla or Coconut can make you feel warm. Bath and Body works has lots of nice scents (Sweet Pea and Cucumber Melon are ideal for summer), and they usually have coupons and sales.
  • Make sure to clean your face regularly. Sweat and oil can accumulate and clog your pores, making your face feel dirty and heavy. A good exfoliating cream and a light moisturizer should do the trick!
  • Style your hair so that it's off your neck and away from your face. Ponytails always work. Be sure to wash your hair at least once a week (or however often you need to for your hair type) to keep your scalp clean and healthy.
  • Brush your teeth. You should do this at least twice a day anyway. A fresh, clean mouth can make your tongue feel cooler. Minty toothpastes and gum are good to use during the summer to help you feel cool.
  • Wear shorts, skirts, loose/flowing tops, tanks, flip-flops and sandals. Remember: the lighter the color the less heat it attracts, so try to choose brighter colors like white, pink, yellow and orange. The weight of the fabric is also important to consider, so silk shirts will keep you cooler than denim.
  • Be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially if you're going to be outside. When doing outdoor sports/activities, bring plenty of cold water or Gatorade and try to stay in the shade as much as possible. A small fan or a spray bottle can help you avoid heat exhaustion too, if you want.
  • Choose refreshing, fresh fruit snacks such as watermelon, grapefruit, oranges and strawberries instead of normal snack food, like a bag of chips. The water and vitamins in fruit will treat you much better than the sodium in those savory treats.
  • Open windows at night to let in the cool air and breezes, but keep windows closed and blinds drawn during hot, sunny days. This can make your house feel several degrees cooler and help you avoid turning on the air conditioner, which draws a lot of power.

Luscious locks naturally

Simple kitchen ingredients can make your hair healthy and beautiful
Although the market is flooded with expensive options of hair conditioners and masks, we know they are loaded with chemicals. When you can achieve the same effect by using natural ingredients available in your home, why buy those expensive products? Here
are a few good masks which you can try at home and get fantastic and better results.

The most popular natural hair conditioner remains egg. Mohit Vij, hair expert and creative head, F1 salon, Rajouri Garden, says, “The high protein content of eggs make them the best conditioner for damaged and dry hair. It helps improve the texture of hair and improves hair health. Egg yolk protects the hair from the negative effects of chlorine, pollution and UV rays.”

One whole egg should be mixed with one tablespoon of baby oil or olive oil and worked through the hair. After leaving it on for 10 to 15 minutes it should be washed off with a mild shampoo.

Bananas provide the ultimate soft and mushy hair. Overripe bananas especially minimise shrinkage and soften the hair, making them excellent for curly or unmanageable hair. One ripe banana should be mixed with half-a-teaspoon of almond oil and some milk. Apply on your hair and wash thoroughly after 20 minutes.

Curd is another natural hair conditioning ingredient which restores the pH balance of hair, prevents dandruff and hair loss. Curd can be mixed with besan which brings shine to the hair.

Then there are natural hair rinsers which also work wonders for hair health. Mohit says, “Lemon juice is the most handy hair rinser. It is rich in phosphorus, vitamin A and vitamin B as well as antioxidants. Massaging lemon juice on your hair helps in regulation of blood and glands which in turn helps in growth of hair and produce oil to make your hair shine.”
Even easier, you can brew some tea leaves in a cup of water. Strain, cool and rinse your hair directly with this concoction after shampooing.

If you have vinegar at home, mix it in lukewarm water and rinse your hair with the solution. It will add bounce to dull and lifeless hair.

Beer, especially flat (without carbonation or bubbles), works even better. It provides ample moisture and amazing shine to the hair. Just take care to wash it off with water thoroughly to avoid becoming a mobile beer bar. Stay natural!

How to Take Care of Your Pet

Taking care of your pet is more than just feeding him/her with the cheapest dog/cat food you can find...keep reading to find out how your pet can have a long and happy life-style.
  • Make sure your furry "family member" has a food that suits their nutritional needs. Try to buy natural pet food for your family member; not only will she/he appreciate it, they will have a shiner coat, more energy, be happier etc. Feeding them table scraps - no matter how cute they are when they beg - is not a good idea since people food often has minerals and items in it that can be harmful to our feline and canine friends.
  • If you have a dog takes them on walks. It will give you and her/him exercise. This also acts as bonding time between you and them, allowing you to be come closer together.
  • Give your "family member" a bath at least once every few weeks. If you have a cat go to your local vet and have they give them a bath (that way you don't end up with a million scratches on you). There are also special shampoos (even ones that don't use water) that you can use on your pet. All they require are a washcloth and a loving hand. Brushing your cat often feels like a they are getting a good scratch, so this can be a great way to follow up their bath time.
  • If you have a dog, make sure to cut his/her nails every two months or so. If you have an inside cat, and you don't want your house to look like a bear was in it, it might be a good idea to get her/him de-clawed. If you would like your cat to keep his/her claws, be sure to invest a few dollars in a good scratching post and take the time to teach them how to use it. This will save you and your pet SEVERAL headaches later on.
  • Just like you have to go to the doctor for regular check-ups to make sure you are healthy, be sure to bring your friend to the vet for a check-up as well. Since they can't talk, sometimes it takes an expert look to find out if they are well or not.
  • Go to a dog park with your dog, play Frisbee or ball whatever gets them moving. If you have a cat, go to your local pet store and get him/her a cat toy.
  • Don't be surprised though if your cat doesn't like the toy you've chosen n(they are known to be picky)
Keep trying and know that sometimes, their favorite toy may be a spot of light or a ball of rolled up paper.
