Shopping in Summer

As the temperature soars, we run helter skelter to shop for soft and comfortable clothing. There are some prime factors we need to consider while rummaging to update our wardrobe: the look of the season, fabrics available, colours and the persona of ones self.

KIND OF LOOK
The look during summer season is that of the 60's with the soul of 90's giving it a contemporary and modern approach. Street fashion seems to be the mantra of summer season. There has been a comeback of tunic with high slits and harem pants. The hottest fads of summer season are Oriental and Indian textiles, which create a harmony between the leaf motifs and sprinkles of decorations. The wraps remain this season in statements like pleats, drapes and the smocking effect. The slim look is in response to the health conscious consumer who is working on her toned midriffs. The clean look in the soothing crispy Chikankari is the best bet in the langourness of the summer. Ombers in fortus of overshirts and jackets give a trendy and chic appearance. A lot of aqua sportswear adds to the casual dressing. The lingerie takes a flight into nightwear with seductive, sensuous lacy frills.

KIND OF FABRIC
The right fabric attributes to have a soft and sexy feel to your skin - that is what is called wonder fabric, for it is the fabric, which make and shape the garments. Handcrafts remain the inspiration as global warming builds up.

Wafer thin fabrics that are delicately embroidered with eyelettes, sequins and mirror work builds the tempo for the designers. The velour and elasticized hand made crochets are the popular choice of summer season. Transparency makes an impact in chiffons, nets, georgettes and knits. Knitwear in the form of body sculpting and soft fabrics which drape around would be good sellers. Hand made and hand spun fabrics would have jumps in demand and khadi will be strong in corporate attires. Prints remain favourites for the masses owing to their appeal in blocks, assymetrical, embossed and jacquards.

KIND OF COLOUR
The colour palette of summer season is inspired by the coral hues suggesting a sense of peace and tranquility. There is a definite return of gold and silver with the revival of rusts, reds, electric blues, lavender and parrot green as show stoppers and shock valves. The black story continues for nightwear and whites for daytime. Pastels in darker tones are suggestive in order to avoid the washed - off effect.

AND TO END WITH - AN ATTITUDE
The most important factor is the attitude. The self-confidence in oneself helps in carrying the most chic garment to the most outlandish outfit without a problem and with panache. One must wear the right kind of accessories so that it accentuates the persona rather than diluting the intended effect.
